Hey folks.

I have suddenly become interested un programming in OS. But when it comes to OS, I'm not very fluent.

I was wondering, if I wanted to programme within UNIX/Linux, where would and could I start? I'm currently running a Windows XP OS, and was wondering if that would affect me wanting to programme in UNIX/Linux.

All help is appreciated, thanks!

If you wanted to start Linux/Unix development but still run your Windows OS, then your best bet is to install a shell that runs on Linux/Unix.

Cygwin.com would be a great place to start. Install the Bash or Korn shell on Windows. This will allow you to create Linux/Unix console apps. If you want to get into OS or Graphic development, then you'll need the real deal, in my opinion.

Thank you very much for your reply and the link. I shall look further into it, thanks. May I just ask, can you elaborate on "the real deal".

Thanks.
