I believe icons are designed to communicate with visitors or users in a more intuitive and effective way. I have no experience with icons but I want to design my own, does anyone around here design their own icons? I want to create some original icons like the ones Google uses, is there a rule for amount of colors?
Please help me!

Are you asking for someone to make you some icons. If so I will help, just tell me what you want.
Also if you want to do it yourself, here is a great program.

As for colors, as seen at http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_display.asp, 90% of internet users are able to view 16,777,216 colors. Otherwise, the rest can see 256 colors.

So, if you want to play it safe stick with the 256 colors. But, you can use any color without much of a problem. It's really up to you. A lot of designers are using a wide array of colors.

If you want to use 256, when in Photoshop, click the 'web-safe' checkbox on the color select tool.

Also, just as a side note, when creating icons it is good practice to develop them in a variety of sizes. Usually something like 32x32, 24x24 and 16x16. Sometimes even 64x64, but there is not much need.

agreed about sizes, one thing though is that since i have worked with linux more, since it has less limitations on size etc... i design my icons at a much better resolution... that way some of the dock effects or other uses still make it look clean.
