After the last couple of months, I've become compitent in Java programming so I can write a program. The only problem is that I don't know what to program! I feel like riping my eyes out of my socket because one of the reasons I learned was because I wanted to make open source software I wanted to use. So does anyone else have this problem?

Write something you would need, like a simple text editor. Anyway, you can always read some tech articles/books and find interesting ideas to implement. Take a Calculus book and try to solve a problem by creating an application, that will actually solve it. smile.gif

Try finding a problem and writing a software solution to it. The Ubuntu community is notorious for writing graphical applications that help inexperienced users. smile.gif

Or just play around with new technologies until you get an idea.

Or go into game development.

Thanks PixelCard! I've decided to make a simple text editor called NText (Nerd Text) and I've started development today. biggrin.gif

If you're just looking for challenges as opposed to whole projects, try some of these out:

I recommend working a little with J2EE. Set up Tomcat or another application server on your computer and try to make some simple web apps.
Start with a web form to validate input etc.

once you do that maybe look into setting up a content management system and learning about that etc. Java is simply a HUGE area of technology and there is always things to learn.
