I just started learning about SSH using a client like PuTTY yesterday. Before that, I'd never even heard of it! Well, I feel really stupid asking this, but when you make changes to a file, how do you save it?

I logged into PuTTY and typed in this to (hopefully) edit the server configuration files:
vi /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf

I was finally able to figure out how to edit it, but now, I can't figure out how to save it.
Please help!!
Thank you! biggrin.gif

You use whatever command the editor you're using uses to save the file - it's that easy.

I believe in vi, it's :wq.

This really isn't a programming question, its more on how to use an application. Moved to Computer Support & Operating Systems smile.gif

Try using an editor like Nano (if it's installed). It's a little easier to use than Vi. smile.gif

I prefer Emacs, but Nano is a lot easier to use.

At around 3am I usually switch over to using Nano because my brain is too tired to remember key-bindings.
