I’m working on this Dinosaur animation for a video my colleague is sequencing. I have the structure but I have problems with Dino’s skin. I don’t know how much hue I should use or if there is any special recipe for obtaining that real-life skin that can make you feel it just by looking at it. I would appreciate your feedback

Does it work for what your needs are, answer your question, or help in any sort of way.

Hey I'm the guy who did the Prehistoric Insanity tutorial you linked to. Did you guys find it helpful?

We haven't got any feedback on these tutorials, and were wondering if people are getting anything from them. If so we'll do a bunch more.

Thanks, and hope to see you around.

Well in my honest opinion, though its a great picture (nice and close up) its not a great base for a skin texture.

The problem is how that skin isn't the right scale or size for a dinosaur.

You'll have to tile it or stretch it, and that will make it look fake due to blurring or tile lines (look at my tuturial post pic of when I applied the premade reptile shader from my program. it is essentially made from a similar shot of a croc or lizard, and ends up having to both blur and tile to cover my dino).

You don't have to be a photoshop expert to try my technique. Serious make a VERY simple colour pattern that you like, apply a noise filter (found in image filters tab), and than apply a tile FILTER (this is different from tiling a texturing in your 3D program) from the same tab to make the scales it'll look sweet as.

You can also size the textures for different body parts so that the scales are the same size over the whole animal if you build it in pieces (as I personally do)

That's how I'd do it, but there are MANY ways to do it.
