my tech support calls with att are by now a novel, and i have no idea what the deal is either.

everything worked fine with time warner.
switched to att (which provides its own router) and can't get my desktop to connect via ethernet.

my 360 works fine and gets on live without issue.
the wireless service works fine also.

but if i take that same line that goes into the 360 and plug it into a laptop , or if i run a cable from router to desktop, i can't get on the internet. i get an ip address from the router, but no internet, and can't ping anyone.

i do get a yellow / orange light combo on my built into the mobo ethernet port.

any ideas?

What ip address is it assigning?

If you open your network properties, it is set to auto assign yes?

Just for fun, try the following :
CODE

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

Also, in control panel, under network connections, if you right click the network device, is the 1st option to enable or disable?

Well you had time warner who doesnt provide their own router, so just use your old one.

dunno, wasn't there.

ferrari : ATT U-verse is different. The router also controls the cable tv's which are all networked to the internet as well. And if I plug my router into the att router, i get nothing.

no2pencil : it gives me a standard. 192.168.1.136 was what i was showing last night
its auto-assigned and i haven't renewed via dos but i have repaired it multiple times, and its definitely enabled.

its really strange, especially since its multiple computers.

Check the DNS settings. AT&T might not like you if you don't use their DNS server.

EDIT: Apparently AT&T doesn't like you anyway.

i know this is a little late, but i figured i'd throw some questions out there.

When your connecting your 360 is it through the router or through the modem directly? Also, Do you know if you have to register the MAC address of the router with ATT. There are several companies out there that require the customer to register the MAC address so they can track it.

Also does ATT assign you a specific IP or is it dynamic?
