My internet is a 6/2Mbps connection(or should be) but I am pretty far from my router which is rated for 802.11g/b. My computer that I am currently on normally gets a 2/1Mbps connection which is good enough for me, but for some reason, the connection has been very F'ed up in the last two days.I have 2 desktops and a laptop and all of the computers connections are very slow, but they are reading normal connections. I went onto the computer that has a LAN connection with the router and updated the firmware and checked that all the settings were correct with the router, and everything looked fine. The router has been losing connection in the last 2 days, so I would have to go unplug it and plug it back in and it would work, still with speed issues though. Well I went on speedtest.net and after 3 attempts to get onto the site, I got on and it took me nearly a second to ping a server that normally takes ~40ms to ping. Since I have updated the firmware on the router, a WGR614v6 by netgear, I do not know what could be wrong. Its not just one system but 3 that has problems. The laptop and my desktop just stop recieving packets, while the computer with a LAN connection works, but at a slower than normal rate. Could anyone give any suggestions as to what the problem is?

P.S. The laptop gets a bad connection when about 10 feet from the router, but it couldnt be the antenna because I am recieving signal about 100 feet away and the signal strength is about 45% with a link quality of 90%.

Try changing the channel, it's possible that you are getting horrible interference on the line.

Well I changed my router from channel 11 which was the default over to channel 7. Its still not as fast as it was about a week ago, but it is noticeable faster then yester, day. Thank you very much.

It is saying now, that my upload speed it normal, but like I said in the OP, I normally get a 2Mbps on the download. I am going to see if a reboot does anything.

Edit : Did a reboot, and it sped up a little more. Thanks for that again No2

If no2 is right, you may want to consider this. Ridiculously expensive, but schweet nonetheless.

He was right, but i dont think that a $200 piece of hardware is going to be bought. If I was going to spend $200 it would be for a new HD (or 2 with a nice RAID 0 happening)
