I made a simple website for my band. I just thought I'd post it here to get any tips from people who are better at web design than me.

hectmusic.com

It is essentially powered by Wordpress. I just embedded the contents of Wordpress as an iframe in my index page. The page is selected with variable 'page' passed via URL. Is this a poor design? I figured this might create some problems with the searchability of the site.

Any criticism welcome.

Thanks

Nice looking site however search engines do not like Frames! Maybe a Flash free landing page with some key words to help generate the attention of Google, Yahoo and MSN.

It's an excellent site. I haven't worked much with Wordpress, but porting your design into a Wordpress theme is something to consider if you're really concerned with SEO.

But I think it's fine the way it is.

Yeah that is what I figured. How can I make it more searchable?

And thanks for the complements. My girlfriend is the one who suggested it be in an iframe. I think it pulls the design together pretty well.

I don't really think you need an iframe for this - you could just build a Wordpress template and write your navigation to link to particular pages using the query string parameter. The only stumbling block I can think of there is the home page.

One thing I am noticing is that you have some positioning issues (like the "hect is proudly powered by WordPress" shows up with hect is proudly being up in the top right corner and then powered by wordpress is showing up at the bottom of the page).

I also noticed that you seem to have an html comment ending at the bottom of every page (-->). If oyu could fix those 2 things the site would be grweatly improved (from my perspective).

I am using IE6.

Overall the site layout is prtty cool and it is an innovative looking skin for the site. Nice work.

You could increase the frame size.

Oh but what the hect, it looks pretty slick the way it is wink2.gif

Looks good, but I wouldn't use frames on it. The search engines may like it better if it uses XHTML but I don't know much about search engines. smile.gif
