Hi

This isnt meant to be a malicious thread but it seems to me that every other day in here theres a thread started asking for links to tutorials to make MMORPG's, just for the record there is no way in hell anyone would put themselves through the hassle of writing an entire tutorial on how to make a game of this size.

People who make these games have years of experience in coding, and theres never just one of them either.
Games such as Runescape and WOW would have taken years to develop with a huge team of people working for 60+ hours a week and you think theres just a tutorial for this kind of thing knocking around on the internet, please!

If you havnt even made your own RPG then how do you expect to understand the fundamentals of a Massively Multiplayer Online RPG, even the name sounds like bloody hard work. Why do you think these games are so popular? its because they are a technical achievement in there own right.

Sorry about that rant but i just want to read interesting threads and to give help to people who are on there way to making games and hopefully get that help reciprocated.

More CODE posts please and screenshots and trials and tribulations!

thanks for reading if anyone did smile.gif

Amen! I agree 100% with you and I also think this should be stickied

BUT

I doubt it will stop most people from posting these types of questions. Most of the people that post on here can't even read the big bright yellow box that says "BEFORE YOU POST". We still get tons of "Help me!!!" and "Need urgent help now" thread titles, among other things.

Maybe someday people will actually read the rules and guidelines before they post....maybe someday.... unsure.gif

plz snd me the codez. Is urgent!

jjsaw5 is right though. People who don't even google to see just how much work a mmo is, probably won't care about any 'forum rules'.

the funny part of all this is the people who come in here asking for help can't even write basic things, like a login system. They want to be able to code a game? they don't even know any languages!

Exactly. If any of them had even tried to program a real game before in something other than flash they would know that even the most simple of games (pong and tic tac toe) are fairly hard to make in an actual programming language. Now lets go about trying to make somethign 100s of times harder adn have absolutely no knowledge of what we are leaping into? I think not.

If people want to make a game, great for them, but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE learn the language you are attempting to use before asking any questions about it and MAKE BASIC GAMES FIRST!!! If you are unable to make pacman or a game like it what makes you think you will be able to code RuneScape or WoW or any other MMO?

konichi wa ,

I must say i agree , making a simple card game in c++ or c or
pearl , or any language take alot of time and alot of know
how , not setting there with a book and reading lines , those
wont show you how to make a mmorpg.

I have to say that if your going to write scrips for a mmorpg
then you should atleast know 2-3 programming lanuages
me and my friends make an mmorpg and we all have iq's
160 , it took about 6 of us to make it and it took us about 5
years , if it had been one of us it would have taken longer
but at last his pc crashed and we lost all the data sad.gif so we all
agreed not to make another one because its just to troublesum.
