Hey,
Does anybody know any decent FREE Web hosting service? I found Geocities too kiddish but I found tripod perfect for a free service. The only problem is that Tripod's Servers are slow. Can anyone suggest a website which has features + speed?

Nope, I know of none and methinks you'd be hard pressed to find one that would stable and good. Because as I found out. Either it's to good to be true, it's crappy, or something just isn't good about it.

I would suggest however to just pony up some cash and buy hosting someplace. Reason being that you generally have more control over what happens. And you'll feel better about yourself, not to mention you'll have your own domain!

Hosting plans at mg1hosting.com start at $10/mo. Of course there are cheaper ones out there but you probably won't find the standard of customer service that mg1 has. I know that from experience! happy.gif

I found www.freewebs.com to be good enough for my basic requirement.

No Ads for 45 Days....But a Lot of Limitations sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif

I can get you hosting with a free domain name for only $4.42 per month. The plan also includes the following:

QUOTE
2500 MB Hosting
40 GB Transfer
24/7 ticket/phone support
1 Domain hosted
10 SubDomains
100 POP3 accounts
100 Email aliases
1 MySQL database
5 FTP accounts
Front Page Extensions
FREE Site Studio
SPAM filter
Anti-Virus filter
E-mail filter
POP3 server
SMTP server
5 Mailing lists
Web based e-mail
Catch-all e-mails
Autoresponder emails
E-mail forwarding
Perl support
PHP support
PHP support in HTML files
phpMyAdmin
Crontab support

It's fast, reliable, and has great support. If you ever have any questions about your hosting or setting up your website, you can get free 24/7 live support.

I am actually considering doing some free hosting soon. The free hosting plan would have 50 MB of space and some of the features above (no banners on your site). If you are active on the forums, you can get up to 125 MB of space and most if not all of the features above. First I need to get a few more clients for my paid hosting to ensure I can afford the free hosting. If you want, I can contact you when I decide to set up my free hosting.

If you are interested in the paid hosting, go to Frost Hosting

So you are able to offer 2.5GB of space for $4.95 per month?

The average HDD in a dedicated server is 80GB, a basic RedHat or FreeBSD install takes up a few GB by itself. That leaves you with room for about 25 sites. That snags you about $123/mo... maybe it's just me, but I that doesn't seem like quite enough $$$ to run a solid server. Not including the overhead of the 1800 number, support staff, etc. etc.

Generally speaking, free hosting is worth exactly what you pay for it...it's acceptable for the personal site of someone who doesn't care about services or reliability, but I'd never trust a business or important personal project to one.

As a disclaimer, I do not run a hosting company in any way, shape or form. I get no benefit from others using paid hosting.
