Not sure exactly why. Also i would not allow any links to ftp into the parent directory for your cgi-bin. Someone could get around the permission issue of getting in there and do some damage. Also i tell everyone this. Do you have protection on your login username/password. Make sure it wont take an input of Drop Table or any xss type stuff. otherwise a few spelling issues you vs your but good.
