Hello, I always use Fireworks cs3 to do banners etc for my site. I was wondering if photoshop is better or worse than Fireworks for that kind of thing, I would like opinions so I know whether or not to bother downloading photoshop. If you could post the ups and downs you have found of both programs that would be great too.

I use photoshop almost exclusively as far as web design goes. It's really whatever floats your boat, though. You can get a free trial of Photoshop off Adobe's site to play around with for a month to see if you like it or not.

I uses PS, well its the best there is in my eyes as its fluent, easy to use and is the ultimate for creating web designs.

Firefox, meh , im not keen on i got a macromedia package from my mums work with dreamweaver, flash and fireworks and i installed DW as i needed it, Flash to play with and fireworks because i was unsure which to pick and uninstalled it the same day.

I have used both FW and PS. PS gets my vote on the better app. I just find it easier to use.

having played with both, I would say that you would want to use PS over Fireworks.

On PS, effects are easier to find and manipulate to your liking; fireworks gives you similar options (up to a point), but the menus can be so awkward to navigate that it can give you a migraine (note, this is being said by a person that used fireworks exclusively for three months before finding PS and nearly died from being overcome with relief at the ease with which he could make things).

The other thing about fireworks is that it has less "frills" (brushes and the like) which, if you are heavily into graphic design but not especially great at using pen tools, can come in handy (big time). Even if you do use the pen tool well, though, you have more options for playing with the shapes you make on PS than fireworks.

Hope that helped.

I am going to go with the darkside on this one. I prefer Fireworks because to me it is easier to use than Photoshop. I have them both on my PC though.

I have to agree with Nykc, Fireworks seems easier to me and has many (sadly not all) of the features that I am looking for. Additionally, I find that PS tends to lag on my computer and is a bit bloated for the things I commonly use out of it. For that reason I go with Gimp or Illustrator when I need something that Fireworks doesn't have and avoid PS whenever possible.

If you are looking for something free, try Gimp it has almost the same features as PS, plus no money out of your wallet.

Photoshop All the Way!

I use Photoshop pretty much everyday.

I also use it for web design and logo creation / fun.

Fireworks is somewhat limited, compared to Photoshop. I don't even understand the point of Fireworks, now that Macromedia has merged with Adobe.

The two are completely different software. Photoshop is the image processing software, Athough fireworks can handle images, but it is mainly for page editing . Based on differences application software depends on its use.You can also learn to use another software if you have known some methods of software using.Just try to learn more. It's not bad for you .

Why don't use use Gimp or Inkscape (though Inkscape is mostly used for other purposes)
